Nintendo Sales & Marketing Exec Exit: Scott Moffit Leaving; Company Shuts Down Kickstarter Campaign

It isn't all fun and games at Nintendo, as Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing Scott Moffit is stepping down from his position this month. His exit will leave his responsibilities in the hands of "a strong group of seasoned leaders," Nintendo claims.

According to IGN, Moffit became part of the Nintendo family in 2011, after working for Henkel Consumer Goods for five years. Moffit also had a seven-year tenure tat PepsiCo, handling its marketing. He succeeded Reggie FilsAime, who is now the current president and COO of the company.

"Nintendo has a strong group of seasoned leaders in place who will step in to assume the full responsibilities of the role on a permanent basis, with the objective of driving more collaboration and greater efficiencies across these groups and among the respective leaders," Nintendo told IGN.

Moffit's departure comes just a year before Nintendo intends to launch their upcoming gaming console nicknamed NX. According to their announcement back in April, the NX is set to be released globally in March 2017. Despite the opportunity to present or even tease the NX during this year's E3, the company decided to remain tight-lipped about the upcoming gaming console.

In other Nintendo news, the company shut down a Kickstarter campaign to fund the publishing of a Nintendo Entertainment System artbook by Bitmap Books, Eurogamer reports. The Kickstarter campaign was taken down just one day before it was supposed to end, coming so close to earning $218,000. Nintendo claims taht the book infringes on copyright of several of their games, including "Super Mario Bros.," "The Legend of Zelda," and "Donkey Kong."

Sam Dyer, who launched the Kickstarter campaign, shared that he could not get the book licensed so he consulted attorneys to avoid such copyright claims, to no avail. Bitmap Books took to Twitter to share their thanks, without really referencing the incident.
