It was 14 months ago when the Cupertino-based tech giant released its first smartwatch, called the Apple Watch, and now, Apple enthusiasts are already in for a treat since the next-gen Apple Watch, dubbed as Apple Watch 2, will be packed with a new screen technology plus a new tracker feature.

According to DigiTimes, Apple Inc. may use a new microLED screen technology, which the company acquired in 2014 upon buying LuxVue Technology, for the upcoming Apple Watch 2. If adding the said technology will materialize, the much-anticipated smartwatch is expected to have a longer battery life and may come with thinner design.

Drexel Hamilton's analyst Brian White even predicted that the next Apple Watch iteration will be 20 percent to 40 percent thinner than that current Apple Watch in the market, MacRumors has learned. If this is to be believed, then Apple Watch 2 may indeed come with the new microLED screen tech, ditching the OLED screen being used in Apple Watch.

Although the new microLED screen tech will provide longer battery life for Apple Watch 2, the said technology is more expensive as of the moment, which means that the price for the next Apple Watch could be affected - it could be doubled or tripled once it is out in the market.

Aside from sporting microLED screen, it is said that the much awaited Apple Watch 2 will include GPS and a Workout App, 9to5Mac reported. With the inclusion of GPS, it is highly likely that the new Watch will be more independent from using an iPhone, while the Workout app's inclusion would allow users to track their swimming activity - which may mean that Apple Watch 2 has an advanced level of waterproofing.

Since there is no official announcement yet if these features will materialize, fans would just need to wait for Apple to confirm or deny all the rumors surrounding Apple Watch 2.

Apple Watch 2 is rumored to be released in September, alongside iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
