UFC and WWE star Brock Lesnar officially returns to MMA action this Sunday when he takes on Mark Hunt in one of the main events for UFC 200.
The surprise move took the world by storm considering both the UFC and WWE normally don’t allow their stars to work on cross brands. But somehow Brock Lesnar and company were able to work something out even if it was a last ditch move.
Lesnar was forced out, didn’t leave
For those who are unaware, Brock Lesnar never left the UFC on the proper terms. He was forced out of the Octagon following an illness (diverticulitis) back in 2011. Despite being in the best shape of his career back then, it was something the “Beast Incarnate” never saw coming.
According to MMAFighting.com, Lesnar’s career-threatening problem resulted from his low protein diet.
"A condition known as diverticulosis is very common from the Western diet. Very low fiber, meat and potatoes thing," explained P.R. Cole, the founder of “Fuel the Fighter” which provides dietary consulting to pro MMA fighters.
Will this be a one-time fight for Brock?
From the looks of it, Lesnar is simply trying satisfy something and exit on his own terms inside the Octagon. His fight against Hunt could be his proper send-off and the 38-year-old fighter says he isn’t looking past his UFC 200 match at least for now.
“I'm not looking past this fight. I'm just taking one day at a time. One training session at a time. Looking forward to July 9. I'm grateful that Mark Hunt took the fight, it was short notice for me and him so we'll see what happens on the 9th,” said Lesnar via Fox Sports.
With that said, will it really be a one-night fight? What if he gets another offer to fight in future UFC events?
There is no telling what Lesnar plans to do though a lot of that may hinge on how he fares against Hunt this Sunday. A win may open further opportunities while a loss will depend on how he was able to last.
Right now, the only thing Lesnar wants is to fulfill an itch – that of which is to return to the cage before he hits 40. He touches on his UFC 200 match in the video below.
