With large companies such as Microsoft keeping tight-lipped about upcoming releases, one can't blame people for snooping around and trying to find out just what they are cooking in the kitchen for the next iteration of their devices, say, Surface. Now, the most recent Surface Pro 4 and Surface book were released in October last year, and as we approach the first year mark, we just can't help but wonder what's next for the Surface family.
Here's a little secret: Microsoft seems to be working on not one, but three additional computers set for a release date of 2017, which is not so far away. The Verge reports that Indian app developer Shubhan Chemburkar recently visited Microsoft's Building 88 in Redmond and conveniently spotted some images of what could possibly be the next generation Surface on the wall in which they display their upcoming projects. It seems that Microsoft is looking to release either a new Surface device, additional accessories, a tablet, or laptop this year (probably in time for the holidays).
Chemburkar's photo also shows three placeholders with the date 2017 written on it, indicating that three additional devices may arrive next year. It would make sense that the Surface Pro 5 would arrive next year following its launch in October last year. However, what could the third device indicate? Rumors have circulated that Microsoft is looking to launch a line of mobile smartphones based on Surface, so it's possible that a handheld device is in the company's near future.
According to Inquisitr, Microsoft may be purposefully delaying the Surface Pro 5 to buy time for Windows 10 Redstone 2, which is set to arrive in spring next year. If Redstone 2 arrives on time, the company may look into equipping the Surface Pro 5 with the latest software. Fans will have to wait and see whether or not Microsoft decides to release any computing devices this year, just in time for the holidays.
