‘Tekken 7’ Release Date, News & Update: No ‘Kuma, ‘Roger Jr.’ Coming? More Game Details Revealed

Bandai Namco has spilled new details for “Tekken 7," touching on the new features that include combo styles, in-game items and possible cross-platform game play.

While those new features should be something to look forward to, there will reportedly be no new characters added to the “Tekken 7” roster. This means that “Kuma” and “Roger Jr.” will not be added.

Why there is no Kuma or Roger Jr. in 'Tekken 7'

The inclusion of “Kuma” and “Roger Jr.” was held off with developers fearing the backlash they may face. To avoid such, game producer Katsuhiro Harada opted not to append the non-human characters on “Tekken 7” for the meantime.

Instead, game designer Michael Murray reveals that characters will have new abilities to offer. This includes new attacks added to game character abilities such as “Tailspins”. Wall damage mechanics have also been altered which should help avoid long chain combo abilities of characters per Siliconera.

Related to that, there will be some tweaks for “Tekken 7” characters tied up to their health. The damage rendered by character special moves will hinge on the remaining life they have. Hence, characters with lower life will reportedly create heavier damage when their lives are low.

Cross-platform happening in 'Tekken 7'?

Other than the characters and improved game play, Bandai Namco hinted of a possible cross-platform game play involving the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Harada is confident that such can be done easily though steps still need to be undertaken with Sony and Microsoft to support that belief.

Microsoft is reportedly open to the “Tekken 7” crosss-platform idea though the same cannot be said with Sony. The fact that both companies are competitors could be a reason behind the silent treatment of Sony though such is up for confirmation.

Ultimately, Harada leaves the fate of making the cross-platform possibility for “Tekken 7” to the gamers. If all goes well, the game may be played across PS4, Xbox One and the PC and create a wider network and more possibilities.

“Tekken 7 is expected to be out by early 2017 on the three game platforms.
