‘The Elder Scrolls Online 5 Skyrim’ Special Edition Facing Stiff Challenges PC Mods

Bethesda will be releasing a remastered version of “The Elder Scrolls Online 5 Skyrim Special Edition” game this October, something expected to bring in enhancements and improvements for gamers. The first thing that comes to mind are graphical improvements some player-made PC mods have been trying to achieve.

The flexibility on PCs is something that game consoles have to deal with. Unlike the PlayStation 4 (PS4) or Xbox One, gamers can apply necessary tweaks ranging from video cards to additional RAM to hone up the usual game play and graphics.

With those in mention, can the Skyrim Remaster for the PS4 and Xbox One outdo what PC mods have achieved so far? The answer to that may all boil down to graphical detail and effects.

Comparing PC Mods with Skyrim Remastered

Digital Foundry makes a comparison through the video you can see below. Initially it would seem that the PC mods are still better when one considers the textures and depth of field that outshines the game console quality.

In short, PC gamers have control on the game content which includes creating campaign and scenarios instead of repurposing items and game assets per reports. But while all that seems lush, the Skyrim Remaster still holds a bit of an edge which PC mod can offer.

This has to do with the “God Rays”, one of Bethesda’s lighting tricks best known for its other game titles, “Doom” and “Fallout 4”. No mods were able to recreate the “God Rays”, bringing out a more authentic feel that makes the game more appealing.

Eurogamer believes that despite that shortcoming, there are plenty of things to look forward to as far as game mods are concerned. But for the ones looking at something close to the Skyrim Remaster, a mod named “RealVision ENB” is considered the closest as far as the captivating effects are concerned.

Though it will need some setup to get it working, it should be worth a shot for those looking at an alternative to the “Skyrim Special Edition”. Full instructions on how to go about it can be found here.

The “Skyrim Special Edition” is set to be released on Oct. 28, 2016 for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
