"The Star Trek" sequel is rolling out and will be named "Star Trek Into Darkness." It follows J.J. Abrams' reboot of the "Star Trek" franchise, TrekMovie reported.
Paramount Pictures has not officially confirmed the title, though. Paramount has secured the domain names forwww.startrekintodarkness.com and www.startrekintodarknessmovie.com, ComingSoon reported.
It is interesting to note the grammatical distinction in the title of the latest movie from the "Star Trek" franchise. There is no colon in the title of this movie, unlike the previous "Star Trek" movies.
The new title might offer some insight into the plot of the movie.
"On the other hand the title is also evocative of Star Trek's core mission of going into the "darkness" of space, to seek out new life and new civilizations," said TrekMovie.
This could be an allusion to Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises", the second of the Batman series that saw the dark side of the conflict between good and bad.
The movie stars Chris Pine as Capt. James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Zoe Saldana as Nyota Uhura, Karl Urban as Leonard "Bones" McCoy, John Cho as Hikaru Sulu, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg as Scotty, Anton Yelchin as Pavel Chekov, Benedict Cumberbatch as an unnamed villain, Alice Eve and Peter Weller, ComingSoon reported.
The movie will be directed by J.J. Abrams. The screenplay will be written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof.
"Star Trek Into Darkness" will hit the big screen May 17, 2013 in 2D, 3D and IMAX 3D versions.
