‘Minecraft’ Latest News, Game Rumors & Update: Project Malmo Tool Public Release Set This Week

“Minecraft” players may be on the verge of more customizations soon as Microsoft pegs the release of Project Malmo this Thursday. The tool will allow players to make artificial experiments for the popular game though some minor programming knowhow may be needed.

The source code for Project Malmo will actually be a second coming. Microsoft released the codes then known as “AIX”. The problem is that not all people were able to get hold of the code though they get another chance this Thursday.

Minecraft Servers Keeping Track

Artificial Intelligence testing seems to be the name of the game right now and Microsoft seems pretty open to the idea. All this will be hosted by the Minecraft server Microsoft has set up, something that can measure and monitor.

With the server keeping tabs, this means that gamers (or programmers) don’t need to worry about missing a beat. Analysis and replays will be available just in case the need arises.

Project Malmo opens up a lot of possibilities for Minecraft, including bringing in new AI elements to the game’s virtual world. Researchers will be able to build AIs, which can learn in time to hold conversations, make decision and complete more complex tasks per Neurogadget.

Imaginations expected to run wild

The open-source licenses offers plenty of possibilities. In fact it carries some educational twist by allowing players to be creative and resolve some game problems with the Project Malmo tool.

Among the possibilities include training artificial intelligence in identifying patterns in dictations.

“We’ve trained the artificial intelligence to identify patterns in the dictation, but the underlying technology doesn’t have any understanding of what those words mean,” explained Katja Hoffman, a researcher in Microsoft’s Cambridge, UK, research lab. “They’re just statistical patterns, and there’s no connection to any experience.”

Project Malmo will be made available to programmers on GitHub via an open-source license.
