"Thor: The Dark World" has began shooting in Bourne Wood, Surrey, in England.
Star Chris Hemsworth was seen with a new altered "Thor" armor and wielding his Mjolnir (giant hammer). He was joined by Lady Sif played by Jaimie Alexander, reported Comic Book Movies.
The pictures showed an explosive battle scene being filmed between the forces of Asgardian and an unknown army known as Marauders. One of the pictures has actress Jaimie Alexander riding a horse.
Hollywood believes it was a "risky move" to bring the first "Thor" to the big screen since it wasn't as popular a character as "Iron Man," who had his high tech gadgetry and a modern outlook. But "Thor" was straight from Marvel's fantasy. Though the first movie was a "modest hit," it was the success of "Avengers" that made the Asgardian popular among the moviegoers. It also earned actor Hemsworth "more respect."
The sequel to "Thor" is wilder than the original movie. The story has Malekith the Accursed, ruler of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim, played by Christopher Eccleston clashing with Thor. The movie follows Thor's journey beyond Earth and Asgard to The Nine Realms.
The cast of the movie includes Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Alexander, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Stellan Skarsgård, Eccleston, Idris Elba and Rene Russo.
Alan Taylor ("Game of Thrones") will be taking over the movie's direction from Kenneth Branagh, who was the director of "Thor." Don Payne and Robert Rodat will be writing the screenplay.
The movie will hit theatres November 8, 2013.
