Are mobile games taking over traditional gaming platforms?
This is what we've been hearing lately. Major hardware makers and smartphone makers have all released new tablets and smartphones, and yes, their sales figures are high.
"Angry Birds" has become the most downloaded game. But Original-Gamer does not think mobile gaming will take over other gaming platforms. Apple, with its latest iPhone 5, "does not care" if their smartphone is for gaming-pros, Original-Gamer said.
The company mentions how with their new A6 chip, the graphics have better power to run games. The App Store also has plenty of games. Though Apple rolls out high quality products, gaming is not their focus. As original-gamer observes, to be a leader in gaming industry, the focus must be on gaming. Atari, Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sega have all been leaders of gaming at a point or another. Apple is least bothered if their products gain or lose in game sales.
There are lots of games that do not work on Apple products. Angry Birds is the most downloaded since it "works" on any device.
The site argues that people who did not play games before now do by buying smartphones. They play games when they get bored for few minutes and their number is higher than those who play regularly for long hours on consoles.
There have been game specific devices like Sony's Xperia Play phone or Ouya or Wikipad tablet. The people behind these devices have games as their focus. This is what gamers are attracted to.
It is easier for any person to make a mobile game. All he as to do is download a software development kit, and construct a casual game and just give it a better name!
Until, smartphone and tablet makers want to focus on gamers and demand higher quality games like the ones in portable gaming devices like the Nintendo 3DS and the PlayStation Vita, mobile gaming will not "take over" console or online gaming.
