A California-based fitness gadget company called Fitbit Inc. unveiled two new fitness products, One and Zip, on Monday.
Fitness tracking pioneer, Fitbit, which had started the fitness fad has been lying low for some time. Presently, there is heavy competition with companies like Nike, Motorola and Adidas manufacturing their own fitness devices.
Fitbit is not sitting still. It is laying out new plans to reclaim the market.
The company released its new Fitbit Zip targeting casual users. It can track the number of steps you take throughout the day, the calories you burn and the distance you travel. It comes in magenta, charcoal, white, royal blue and lime colors and costs $59.95.
Fitbit One, the flagship product can keep track of the steps, distance, calories burned and stairs climbed. It also measures the sleep cycle, monitoring your sleep and has an alarm that wakes you up in the morning. It comes in two colors - burgundy and black and costs $99.95.
Both these devices can be clipped to the jeans, belt or even the bra. One comes with a sleep wrist so that you can wear it at bedtime. Both these gadgets are water and sweat-proof.
Both the gadgets wirelessly and automatically sync the information to PCs, Macs, the iPhone 4S, 5, iPod touch and the 3rd generation iPad. It also has Bluetooth connectivity. The company has released an updated iPhone app where users can see their fitness activity, earn fitness badges or challenge friends. The app for Android smartphones will be out soon, Fitbit said.
While Zip is available in the markets, One will be available by this fall. Currently it is available only for pre-ordering.
The gadget has a monochrome screen display that can be tapped to rotate through the stats. Unlike the previous versions, it does not have a backlight.
"People are growing increasingly aware about how little we move and how we need to move more throughout the day," James Park, CEO and founder of Fitbit told PC Magazine. "Fitbit is dedicated to helping people achieve health and fitness with products that are well designed, beautiful, easy, and fit seamlessly into their lives."
