iPhone 7 Release Date, News & Update: Only Two Apple Flagships Coming?

Apple’s iPhone 7 continues to near its revelation day and now the rumor mill has been weeding out the ‘intangibles’. And one of those has to do with the number of iPhones debuting this September.

As mentioned in a post last month, one distinction could be the cameras and the retention of the 3.5 mm jack. There would be two 4.7-inch variants, one with a 3.5 mm jack and the other using the Lightning port. You can read more on that here.

Leaked images of iPhone 7 variants

Recently, new leaked images came out to show another round of potential iPhone 7 designs. Spotted over at Weibo (via NWE), the iPhone 7 would be the lone 4.7-inch screen model with the iPhone 7 Pro and Plus looking fairy the same with a bigger mold.

There can only be TWO

Now however, a new report from Apple Insider clears the air. Reliable tipster Evan Blass bats that there will be only two new models and that they will be codenamed “Sonora” and “Dos Palos”. The names were derived from two towns in California.

Blass didn’t shed out more details but his credibility precedes him. He has been spot on with his leaks so far so such may douse any speculation surrounding the possible release of three iPhone 7 models.

Good or bad development?

With Apple holding off any major iterations, seeing only two models come out makes more sense. Consumers are still expected to try and get hold of one though the demand could falter a bit. Adding a third variant may not make much sense, since overstocking could mean more losses for the Cupertino company.

Regardless, the meager features so far include a higher processor, bumped up storage, improved cameras and new port options (Lightning). The home button and mute buttons are allegedly no longer around so it will be anyone’s guess how the iPhone 7 will be received once it comes out this September.
