Apple's iOS 6 Copied Clock Design from Swiss Railways?

Apple's new iOS 6 may have started on a wrong note. After users complained about the inaccuracy of Apple's Maps app, the Cupertino-based company is now being accused by Swiss railway operator SBB of infringing on its trademarked clock design at Swiss railway stations.

The new update to iOS, iOS 6 has a clock app that resembles the Swiss trademarked clock that was crafted by Hans Hilfiker in 1944. The trademark is owned by the Swiss Federal Railway.

The SBB told Swiss newspaper Tages-Anzeiger that Apple violated the railway's trademarked clock, as it features the same on its new clock icon in the iOS 6. It also told the paper that watchmaker Mondaine licensed the design while Apple had not secured any such license for design, MacRumors noted.

The paper also noted that SBB might reach out to Apple and find an agreement regarding the usage of the clock design. The disputed design appeared only in Apple's iPad and not on the iPhone, said Adam Howorth, a spokesman for Apple in London, in a report by Bloomberg.

The company's updated iOS has made a lot of users unhappy with its Maps app that has made quite a mess of mapping features. A Tumblr blog reveals why.

Apple's Maps recently replaced Google maps, which were significantly reliable and accurate. Apple has always defended designs that look like its own. Apple accused Samsung of copying its designs and has sued it in various courts. In August, Apple won more than $1 million, as the jury ruled that Samsung had copied designs from Apple's iPhone and iPad.
