'Iron Man 3' Movie Rumors, News: Ten Rings Might Have a Role in New Film Assisting Mandarin

Terrorist group Ten Rings was introduced in the first installment of "Iron Man" and played a crucial role in the formation of Tony Stark's character, played by Robert Downey Jr.

In the movie, Stark, a defence contractor, is ambushed and taken captive by the group while demonstrating the Jericho missile to the U.S. army. This event leads him to building an arc reactor and suit and eventually becoming Iron Man. The third installment of the movie, "Iron Man 3," might be based on Ten Rings film site Screen Rant reports.

In the Marvel comics, Iron Man's archenemy is Mandarin, who wears 10 rings on his fingers. The character of Mandarin has been the most talked-about, both by fans and people involved in the Iron Man franchise.

Jon Favreau, who was supposed to direct "Iron Man 3" said in an interview to MTV in May 2010, "You've got to do the Mandarin... The problem with the Mandarin is that the way it's depicted in the comic books, you don't want to see that."

"He has 10 magical rings - that just doesn't feel right for our [franchise]... So it's either tech-based, or the rings are not really rings. But maybe with Thor and all those others, you'll introduce magic to that world and it won't seem so out of place," he said in a report by Screen Rant.

The 10 magical rings stand for 10 different powers. In the comics, the rings are taken by Mandarin after he finds a crashed alien ship.

Reports have suggested that Ben Kingsley will be playing the role of Mandarin in "Iron Man 3."

Film site Latino Review has acquired photos of the production crew hats that have the "Ten Rings" logo and name of the movie. Mandarin might use the 10 rings to destroy Iron Man.

"Iron Man 3" is being directed by Shane Black and is set to hit big screens May 3, 2013.
