Minecraft creator, Markus Persson has joined other individuals from the gaming industry criticizing Microsoft's new Windows 8 platform.
Persson, who created the popular game Minecraft, took to Twitter to criticize Windows 8.
"Got an e-mail from Microsoft wanting to help 'certify' Minecraft for Windows 8," Persson tweeted Friday. "I told them to stop trying to ruin the PC as an open platform."
"I'd rather have Minecraft not run on Windows 8 at all than to play along," he continued. "Maybe we can convince a few people not to switch to Windows 8 that way."
Persson has more than 900,000 Twitter followers. His game, Minecraft use blocks to create the environment.
Microsoft has to certify a game to let it appear in Windows 8 game store. Though you can play the games in the OS that are not approved, you will not see them in the listing of the store.
All developers have to play by Microsoft's rules or risk of being ignored, CNET reported.
Microsoft requires programs to conform to Microsoft's Windows 8 touchscreen interface and games having adult content will not be a part of Windows store.
Microsoft like Google and Apple will take 30 percent cut in the sales via its stores.
Earlier in July, Gabe Newell Valve's chief executive had said Windows 8 would be a "catastrophe for everyone in the PC space." He added saying he preferred a fully open platform.
Rob Pardo, Blizzard executive, who are behind games like Diablo 3 and World of Warcraft said, Windows 8 was "not awesome for Blizzard either".
Microsoft has declined to comment on Persson's Tweets, BBC News reported.
A tech blog, Neowin accused Persson as being a "hypocrite." The blog said Persson has no qualms when it comes to closed system policy of Apple.
He replied to that comment by tweeting: "Microsoft owns the Xbox. Apple owns the iOS. The charm of the PC is that nobody owns it... Microsoft is free to do whatever they want with their OS. I won't support all of what they do, however."
