NBA Trade Rumors 2016: Greg Monroe Best Dealt To New Orleans

Greg Monroe trade rumors continue to swirl with the Milwaukee Bucks believed to be working out deals for the 26-year-old big man. After acquiring Monroe from the Detroit Pistons, things just haven’t turned out the way the Bucks had hoped for.

The former first round pick of the 2010 NBA Draft did put up good numbers (15.3 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists) but his chemistry with guys like Jabari Parker simply splat on coach Jason Kidd’s face. With the disappointment, the Bucks are believed to be looking at deals on the table.

The New York Knicks have been mentioned but thus far nothing has gone down. Several other teams would likely pitch to the Bucks though one team is shaping up to be a viable option – the New Orleans Pelicans.

Homecoming for Monroe

Zach Lowe tackles on the Monroe case via his podcast, believing a deal with the Pelicans is the best option right now. The big guy would prefer moving there since he is a native of New Orleans.

Assuming that this does go down, the next question is whether Monroe would fit. The franchise player is obviously Anthony Davis. Would a Davis-Monroe tandem work for head coach Alvin Gentry?

Like the Bucks, the Pelicans are coming off an atrocious season. They failed to follow up their 2015-16 NBA season performance where they managed to reach the playoffs.

With that in mind, a deal could make sense with both teams hardly having anything to lose. But who will the Pelicans dangle that could convince Bucks that this is the deal to be?

The two teams have reportedly discussed a potential deal in the past but nothing has materialized so far. The NBA is still on break and anything can happen between now and the start of the regular season. Could this be the deal Monroe and the Bucks have been waiting for?
