Gran Turismo has always been inclined toward technology. Polyphony Digital announced its plans for running Gran Turismo at "4K resolution" speed at Sony's "Dramatic 4K Experience" in Japan this October.
The Japan-based Polyphony Digital, which develops Gran Turismo, said it will be unveiling a 4K resolution version of popular racing game Gran Turismo 5 at Sony's tech event, GTPlanet reported.
This is an effort on Sony's part to show off its new resolution standard for BRAVIA TVs. It will be fantastic to watch, since the resolution will be four times the 1920×1080 resolution of current HDTVs. The actual resolution is 380x2160.
It will be powered by three PlayStation consoles. The TV might cost approximately $25,000 or even more. The price will reduce as technology gets better.
It has been widely anticipated that PlayStation 4 will be able to support high resolution.
Sony's tech demo, unfortunately, will be held only in Japan.
In 2008, Polyphony Digital showed their ability to run GT5 Prologue at 240 frames per second with 4xHD resolution at the DownShift 2008 session while celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the series.
The demo will run throughout October at OPUS Communication Zone at the Sony Building in Tokyo.
Gran Turismo 5 won Golden Joystick Awards 2011 in the Best Racing Game category and has 12 more awards to its name. It became the best-selling PS3 game in Europe, having sold over 7.4 million units by December 2011.
