Cashing in on Apple's disappointing Maps app in iOS 6 and Apple CEO Tim Cook's apology, Google has added Street View to its maps feature for mobile browsers.
This will greatly help iOS 6 users who do not have the Google app to use it via mobile browsers.
"Starting today, use Street View on your mobile browser to check out a new shop across town or get a feel for the ambiance at a restaurant before you arrive," Google said in its blog.
"I tested this addition, which displays 360-degree photographic street views of selected locations, and interior photographic views of certain businesses, using sample links Google sent me. These links worked well, allowing me to see the locations and pan around with a finger," said Mossberg of AllThingsD.
Apple showed Google Maps app the door after it updated the iOS recently to iOS 6. The company made its customers use its own in-house Maps app that created a huge furore among Apple users as it was inaccurate in its images and data, providing distorted images and wrong directions with gaps in its maps.
User's dissatisfaction reached Apple's CEO, who in a rare step apologised last week saying he was "extremely sorry" for causing frustration to customers. He had even suggested the users to use Google or Nokia maps through mobile Web browsers.
This is the tight moment for Google to up its ante by upgrading its Web version of Google Maps, showing its maps are most user-friendly and reliable.
There is no news on Google releasing its maps app for iOS but if it does release then it will be a different version than the one for Android with newer features and capabilities.
