Nintendo Slashes Prices of Wii Ahead of Wii U Release

Nintendo slashed prices of its original product Wii Monday, in preparation of the Nov. 18 Wii U release. The company is making a reduction of $20.

Nintendo will now offer Wii for $129.99. It will come in a black console, with Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort, both on a single disc. The bundle will also contain a black Wii Remote Plus and Nunchuk.

Kotaku reported that the bundle will start rolling out in stores immediately, and will be widely available by Oct. 28.

"Nearly six years after it launched, people are still attracted to the pure, inclusive fun of the Wii console," Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of Sales & Marketing, said in a statement, VatorNews reported. "A new suggested retail price and the inclusion of two great games make it an easy choice for families looking for a great value this holiday season."

The Wii, which introduced the world to the idea of motion-control gaming, was launched in 2006, and went on to become a big success, with 600,000 consoles being sold in eight days.

The Wii U has backwards compatibility with the Wii. It's priced at $300 for the Basic Set. There will also be a $350 version called Deluxe Set, which is bundled with games and more storage capacity.

Wii U will come with Wii U GamePad, a touch-screen controller.

It will be released with more than 50 games that include: New Super Mario Bros, U, LEGO City: Undercover, BAYONETTA 2, The Wonderful 101, Capcom's Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate and Call of Duty: Black Ops II.

Microsoft started selling a $250 bundle with Kinect, Skyrim and big hard drive on Monday. Sony is also selling two bundles for $270 and $300 for its slim PS3.
