Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog to Jump to iOS Platforms Oct. 18

Sega's iconic mascot Sonic, the blue spiky fast-moving hedgehog, has done it all from carting (Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing), to the Olympics (Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games), and even pinball (Sonic Spinball).

Well, now the loveable character is all set to jump into the iOS world with Sonic Jump, which will hit the market on Thursday.

Sega revealed the prices of Sonic Jump via Twitter. It will be available worldwide for $1.99 in the U.S., £1.49 in Britain and €1.59 in Europe.

The gaming company hinted that Sonic Jump was headed to iOS devices a couple of weeks ago. The game was originally released for mobile phones. It was developed by Airplay and released by Glu Mobile in 2007, TouchArcade reported.

The first screen from Sonic Jump looks like a revamped Doodle Jump-style gameplay of the original.

Though Sonic is the fastest hedgehog around, this game does not feature Sonic running, but jumping vertically instead. In the game, Sonic has to collect rings and foil the mad doctors.

Sonic was the creation of programmer Yuji Naka and artist Naoto Oshima. He can run at supersonic speeds and curl up into a ball to attack enemies. In 1998, Sonic was redesigned by Yuji Uekawa, who gave him longer legs, a less spherical body, longer and more drooping quills, and green-colored irises.

Sonic's next appearance in home consoles will be in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, which will be available in PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in November. A Wii U version will follow this release, DigitalSpy reported.
