Wii U News: In-game Chat Functionality for Select Titles like 'Black Ops 2, Assassin's Creed 3; Call of Duty Elite will not come to Wii U

Nintendo announced that the in-game chat function for Wii U will be available only for selected games.

Through a statement, Nintendo said the in-game chat functionality will be available only for "including, but not limited to, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Assassin's Creed 3, and Mass Effect 3."

"This feature will be supported by licensed stereo headsets that plug directly into the headphone port of the Game Pad. Licensed headsets are available from Turtle Beach and Tritton," said Japan-based Nintendo, The Verge reported.

It's also not known if players can plug headsets into Wii U's Pro Controller, The Verge reports. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is confirmed to be compatible with The Pro Controller which has a touchscreen.

Meanwhile, there is bad news for Wii U users, there won't be Call of Duty Elite for Wii U.

"We are currently evaluating options for Call of Duty Elite to support Nintendo's Wii U game system, however Call of Duty Elite for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will not support this platform when the game launches on November 13," Activision said, Kotaku reported.

For Nintendo the multiplayer was never its strongest market for revenue. Wii U's unveiling may not change it either. Will U will hit North American markets, Nov. 18 and will cost $299.99.
