'FIFA 13' for Wii U Not the Same as on Other Platforms

Critical features of FIFA 13 that are available for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC platforms will not be available for FIFA 13's Wii U version, Matt Prior, producer of the Wii U version, said in an interview to Eurogamer.

The FIFA 13 Wii U version will not have the same gameplay features that are enjoyed by console gamers like First Touch system and the FIFA Street skill system. The "tweaks and tunes" made to features like Player Impact Engine, tactical defending and precision dribbling will also not be included, he said, according to a report by Eurogamer.

"Some of the later improvements on 13 we weren't able to get into the game," Prior said. "So we've got version one. They've got version two."

The reason for the FIFA 13 Wii U version lacking some features is because too much of time was spent in getting the game running on the new console, about 80 percent of the effort put by Vancouver-based developer EA Canada. The remaining 20 percent of the effort was spent on building new features.

"It was a challenge," Prior said. "Because it's something that's been written for a different machine there's a lot of work getting it to work."

The developers were ready with the game's Wii U version within 14 months.

Though the FIFA 13 Wii U team was working alongside the teams for PS3 and Xbox 360 version, it was not an easy job to bring in the changes.

"We get it working and they change it, alongside all the challenges we already have. It's not technically feasible," he said.

There is another critical feature missing in the Wii U version - Ultimate Team, where users can choose and own their own "dream team" through the virtual trading card game in which players can be auctioned. This is a very popular feature among FIFA fans.

"We don't have Ultimate Team, purely and simply because Nintendo's online is in its infancy," he said. "It's building. FUT took five years to appear on 360 and PS3. They're very complex features. It's potentially something we could do further down the line. But in terms of initially getting the foundation set, that wouldn't have been technically feasible, because it is such a complex mode."
