'Overwatch' Release Date & Updates: Livesteam Unveils Short Film, New Map Details, Skins [Watch]

Blizzard recently presented its "Overwatch" livesteam at Gamescom 2016 to introduce details about the game's upcoming map. An animated short was also featured, which starred Bastion and unveiled a new legendary skin.

The "Overwatch" livesteam delighted fans with the presence of Bastion, the latest map, Eichenwalde, and a new legendary skin for Reinhardt, inspired by the new map. The short, titled "Last Bastion" showcased great storytelling by Blizzard, at the same time leaving much to discover when the new content becomes available. The story happened near Eichenwalde, which was the site of a grand battle during the Omnic Crisis between the Omnics and German military.

GameRant explained how the "Overwatch" short followed the moments after Bastion awakened from his long and isolated sleep. The character was on a trip of self-discovery, complete with all its good and bad moments. By the time the short ended, the audience sympathized much with the machine. The new revelation gave "Overwatch"gamers a deeper glimpse about Bastion, revealing that there is much more to him than what they previously saw.

During the Omnic Crisis, the Crusaders, led by Balderich von Alder, mentor to Reinhardt, tried to defend the area but failed. The latest map focuses on the mission to recover the armor of Balderich von Alder, which has become a legendary skin for Reinhardt. "Overwatch" fans will have the chance to equip the character with the obviously powerful item, although the specifics have not yet been provided.

Blizzard stated during the "Overwatch" livesteam that the public test realm will receive the new Eichenwalde map soon. It will go live early in September 2016. Many fans also speculated that Blizzard has more to unveil in the coming weeks, including a new "Overwatch" character. However, the game developer appears to be quite busy at the moment fine-tuning the game, as well as preparing for the official "Overwatch" Summer Games. Blizzard will most likely delve on nerfs, buffs and balancing in the meantime before introducing new characters.

"Overwatch" is currently available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. More updates and details on "Overwatch" are expected soon.
