Blizzard Confirms Diablo 3 Expansion

Blizzard has confirmed that Diablo 3 will be getting an expansion.

Th news was revealed by Mike Morhaime, CEO Blizzard during the third quarter earnings results of the fiscal year. Though he said that an expansion was planned, he did not specify any time or dates for its release. The expansion's quality and gameplay will be vital and will be a "big factor" when they release, IGN reported.

Activision Blizzard said Nov. 7 that Diablo 3 has sold 10 million units till date.

Bobby Kotick, CEO Activision referred to "Blizzard's record-shattering Diablo 3 sales" as one of the main drivers for this year's earnings. Activision said in a statement that Diablo 3 is "the #1 bestselling game in dollars and units on the PC in the U.S. and Europe" since its release May 15, 2012.

Diablo 3 is the third instalment of the Diablo franchise from Blizzard. It had set a record for the fastest-selling PC game within the first 24 hours of its release, selling over 3.5 million units.

The game received positive reviews. Metacritic gave it an aggregate of 88/100. The "Black Soulstone" trailer video from the game won the "Outstanding Visual Effects in an Animated Commercial or Video Game Trailer" award from the Visual Effects Society.

Blizzard released 1.0.5 patch for Diablo 3 Oct. 16.

Meanwhile, Activision Blizzard's third quarter earnings were "better than expected" and the company "delivered record GAAP net revenues of $841 million...," Forbes reported.

World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria, the new expansion to Azeroth, was another game after Diablo 3 responsible for Activision Blizzard posting good earnings results.
