Sony has released a firmware 2.0 for its PlayStation Vita. The update is now available for users.
The firmware 2.00 brings many changes to the console. One of the major services is PlayStation Plus and others like the new email app, group messaging and improved web browser have been included.
The PlayStation Plus is the most notable feature for PS Vita. Owners will be able to download six new games. The six gaming titles are Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Gravity Rush, Wipeout 2048, Tales From Space: Mutant Blobs Attack, Jet Set Radio and Final Fantasy Tactics. These games have been given out as freebies. Users will get four games every month along with the regular extras.
"The update is fairly small and should only take a few minutes to download and install over wi-fi (though you can also use your PS3 with your Vita connected to it, which will make the process even faster). Your Vita will have to restart after installation is complete," IGN reported.
Users will have access to cloud saving. PlayStation Plus allows 2GB of games to be saved on cloud.
Users do not have to quit a game to access the browser, as they can do it from the application.
"One welcome change in tomorrow's PS Vita FW2.0 will be the web browser becomes a 'small app', you won't have to quit games to use it," said Shuhei Yoshida, president, Sony Worldwide Studios, on Twitter.
The Web browser in Vita will also get a boost.
"@sidshuman that's little talked about but is a big change, and the browsing itself is faster than the current one," he said.
Users can set game saves and trophies to automatic synchronization. The system will automatically start up and accept updates.
Players can also connect their Vita to a PC to transfer files. The map application provides weather information.
Users with PlayStation 3 Plus subscription will be included to PS Vita subscription with no additional charge.
For people who do not have a PlayStation Plus subscription, it will cost $49.99 a year or $19.99 for three months.
