'No Mario's Sky' Release Date, News & Update: [JUST] Repurposed, Not Killed; No 'Super Mario Bros.' Game Tweaks Main Characters' Design, Names

"No Mario's Sky" developer ASMB received a notice from Nintendo to shut the game down. However, the developer of the mash-up game chose to repurpose "No Mario's Sky" instead of just killing it.

Nintendo reportedly wasted no time and sent a takedown notification to ASMB after getting information on "No Mario's Sky." It cited the use of characters that resembles Nintendo's Mario properties in the said mash up game.  Fortunately, it is not quite the end for "No Mario's Sky" as the game developer tweaked the character designs and names to slightly remove the resemblances from the 'Super Mario Bros." franchise, Polygon reported.

Instead of fully terminating the game and removing its download links, "No Mario's Sky" is back once again with some changes to avoid copyright infringement. "No Mario's Sky" now features main characters named Spaceman Finn, Princess Mango and Moombas.

Additionally, No Mario's Sky developer now tweaked its name to DMCA's Sky. This stands for Digital Millennium Copyright Act which is what Nintendo's legal team issued to them in order to take down the game.

Meanwhile, Nintendo has been known to have a history of fan games takedowns so this may not be a surprise for fans of "No Mario's Sky." Previously, Nintendo has forced developers to stop the development of a "Metroid 2" remake and lashed out at the entirely fan made "Pokemon Uranium" game, Kotaku reported.

Unfortunately, the developers of both games were not able to make some tweaks in the games in the same way ASMB did with "No Mario's Sky." According to reports, if tweaks were made, it will defeat the purpose of those two games.

"No Mario's Sky" now known as DMCA's "Sky" by ASMB is now available for download. However, Nintendo has the right to shut down ASMB's "No Mario's Sky" as it owns the "Super Mario Bros." copyright even if it does not harm the long running "Mario" series.

"No Man's Sky" developer Hello Games has not reportedly issued any shutdown notice and does not seem to bother ASMB. Meanwhile, watch DMCA's "Sky" gameplay video here.
