‘The Last Guardian’ Release Date, Game News & Updates: Launch Date Delayed Again? More Bugs Than Anticipated?

The much-awaited release of "The Last Guardian" has again been delayed. Game developer genDESIGN reportedly needs more time to address bugs and other issues in the upcoming game. "The Last Guardian" was discovered to contain more bugs than the developers initially thought, spurring them to adjust the launch date again, instead of compromising overall gameplay.

GameSpot reported that "The Last Guardian" was initially announced in 2009 and was supposed to launch on Oct. 25, 2016. The successor to "Shadow of the Colossus" and "ICO" stated that the game will be postponed to December 2016. According to the game creators, there were more bugs than anticipated which resulted to the further delay. They promised that "The Last Guardian" will finally launch on December 6 on PlayStation 4.

PlayStation Blog stated that according to Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios, the development team of "The Last Guardian" is quickly attaining major production milestones. It was a difficult decision for them to postpone the release of "The Last Guardian" for a few weeks. He continued that a delay is a hard decision, especially with the title, but they discovered more bugs than previously expected during the final stages of development. They only wish to deliver the experience as the game creators truly envisioned by addressing the spotted issues.

Yoshida added that genDESIGN and Japan Studio have a wonderful vision for "The Last Guardian's" touching and emotional journey of friendship and trust. They wish to deliver the most polished experience possible for their fans who have been supportive for such a long time. The game is story-heavy, which is also partly the reason for the long development period.

"The Last Guardian" has been in development for nine years. The game was first slated to launch exclusively on PlayStation 3, but was moved to PlayStation 4. Considering the years that fans have already been in waiting, they will most likely not mind if "The Last Guardian" arrives just before Christmas. The brief further delay will be a good exchange for the removal of bugs. More updates and details on "The Last Guardian" are expected soon.
