Rumors that have been circulating around for quite some time that a new Gundam Versus game would be out soon have been put to end. In the Tokyo Game Show press conference, publisher Bandai Namco took the spotlight and announced that it will be releasing a new "Gundam Versus" title in commemoration of its 15th anniversary. The soon to be released game is also titled "Gundam Versus" and will be coming to the PlayStation 4 sometime in the near future.
Forbes reported that as this year marks the 15th anniversary for "Gundam Versus," Bandai Namco reminded its fanbase of how many games there have been before announcing its new title. The trailer, as shown above, shows the games that are listed before the new game is revealed, but the titles listed are only the home versions of the game. This also looks to be a clean break from the "Gundam Extreme Versus" games in which fans had hoped to see a home version of "Gundam Extreme Versus MaxiBoost ON."
Polygon noted that the new "Gundam Versus" game features stunning visuals, as seen in the trailer posted, where one can see a Gundam smashing through a building that realistically crumbles. It boasts of realistic robot physics as one can see two giant mobile suits clashing against each other in other short scenes. Of course, this game would be better than its predecessors while keeping some of the elements of the past game running, such as the power offered by the hardware upgrade.
It is also reported that producer Ryuichiro Baba said in an interview that the fifth generation of these Gundam games will have a worldwide release. While titles on the PlayStation Vita such as "Gundam Extreme Versus Force" are popular, fans have always demanded to play the arcade versions at the comfort of their own homes.
With that said, it looks like players from the Western side of the world can start anticipating the best, which is to play "Gundam Versus" in their homes. Aside from the revelation that this latest project will simple be called "Gundam Versus," nothing much is revealed yet; a release date is not even mentioned at all.
