Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Latest Rumors, Release Date & Update: Laplet Ad Better Off Targeting iPad Pro Than MacBook Air

Microsoft rubs it in with its new ad for the Microsoft Surface Pro 4, taking aim at Apple’s MacBook Air. While the back-and-forth potshots are nothing new, the better question is that is there a basis for comparison in the first place?

The best way to answer that is to consider the features that each carries. Let us first take on the Surface Pro 4, something that is actually available on the market for $849. Word about the price slash was tackled in a previous post.

The Microsoft Surface Pro 4 up close

The Surface Pro 4 comes with features that include a touch screen, a Surface Pen, and a detachable removable keyboard. In short, the flexibility the device offers is that it can be both a tablet and a laptop.

Placed side-by-side with the MacBook Air, Apple’s device does not offer a touchscreen and a removable keyboard. The Apple Pencil could be compared to the Surface pen but that is about it.

Also, the MacBook Air is a notebook and not a laptop. From that point alone, it seems a bit odd to compare the Surface Pro 4 to the MacBook Air. It would have been better (perhaps) to compare it to an iPad Pro though that Apple tablet doesn’t have a detachable keyboard.

Whatever the marketing team of Microsoft was thinking is anyone’s guess though buyers will also be wise to note that the Surface Pro 4 can be bought technically as a tablet. To turn it into a notebook, the keyboard needs to be bought separately – meaning additional cost on the end of the buyer.

Hence, the only logical answer to the comparison boils down to the OS. Phone Arena does point out that the Surface Pro runs on Windows 10 though the dish made on the ad below doesn’t point towards that.

Could it be an oversight or Microsoft’s way of trying to attract attention? Watch the video below and be the judge.
