‘Pokemon Go’ Gameplay, News & Updates: Niantic Introduces Pokemon Buddy System; Takes Out Support for Rooted Devices

Niantic Labs is looking to introduce new updates and features that will improve the overall gameplay of "Pokemon Go." Some of the highly anticipated features that will arrive soon include the "Pokemon Go" Buddy System, bug fixes and gameplay tweaks.

According to the game developer, "Pokemon Go" will have a new buddy system that will allow players to choose one Pokemon that will accompany them during their adventures. The biggest advantage of the "Pokemon Go" buddy aside from improving the aesthetics of the player avatar is to let them earn Candies for specific Pokemon that they wish to power up and evolve. Depending on the type of Pokemon, players need to walk certain distances to earn Candies specific to the character.

The new "Pokemon Go" patch will bring better performance reliability, particularly when a device changes networks that previously caused the app to hang or stop running. Choosing smaller Pokemon will become easier. Niantic Labs also introduces support for the upcoming mobile device called Pokemon Go Plus. There are rumors that if a "Pokemon Go" trainer selects Pikachu as his buddy, just like Ash in the series, they will receive a special surprise.

Polygon reported that according to Niantic, the latest "Pokemon Go" update will remove game support for phones that have been jailbroken, unlocked or rooted. Unless players revert to a prior version of "Pokemon Go" instead of the 0.37.0 update, they will not be able to enjoy the game. The game developer will continue taking out bots and cheaters in "Pokemon Go." The recent bar is related to Niantic's efforts to boost security and minimize cheating in the game. Many players complained about the sudden change, alleging that they root their devices for other reasons other than cheating, such as adding customizability and saving on carrier costs.

Niantic also introduced the "Pokemon Go" buddy system on iOS. The approach is generally the same as in Android devices. Apple users can expect the new feature to arrive on their mobile phones soon. More updates and details on "Pokemon Go" are expected in the coming weeks.
