PlayStation 4.0 Release Date, News & Update: Overhauled UI, HDR Integration Impressive, But No HDR-Compatible Games Available YET? How To Update [HERE]

PS4 4.0 update is out with Sony adding new features to the gaming console, some of which were thought to be reserved for the PS4 Pro in November. While some gamers may have to trade in their television sets for HDR-compatible ones, no games have been launched yet that will be suitable for the features of the update.

It has been speculated that the first HDR patches for PS4 games will not yet be released until the PS4 Pro launch in November, Wired reported. The update includes High Dynamic Range (HDR) in preparation for 4K gaming, a slimmer UI, remote play, a special treat for the trophy hunters, and the addition of folders for more organized gameplay.

The PS4 4.0 update can be downloaded via LAN or by manually upgrading the hard drive. The HDR seen in the PS4 4.0 provides lifelike images that boost gaming experience.

The PS4 4.0 update features an overhauled UI that is now crisper and flatter than before. A new cover image feature has also been added and the quick menu was minimized. Two-step verification was added for security purposes and remote gameplay has been upgraded that allows streaming to other devices at 1080p and 60fps. The update also included a new trophy menu for easy location of trophies.

The PS4 4.0 also added folders to make gaming more manageable. Games and apps can be placed into groups, but folders cannot be placed in other folders. However, sub-menus can be created in the media bar. The game folders may be labelled "Retro," "Remasters", "Current Favorites", Inquisitr said.

The PS4 4.0 can be added via LAN in Settings>System Software Update. A disc containing the latest version of the system software may also be used.

Another option is to download the update file to a PC, save on a USB storage device, copy the saved file to the PS4 system storage, then confirm if the update has been applied in Settings>System>System Information on the PS4. Watch PS4 - System Update 4.0 Trailer here:
