Half-Life Now Available for Mac via Steam

Apple computers have never had quite the varied library of games as its PC counterparts, but now, one of the genre's most defining games finally comes to the platform..

The game that was declared as game of the year by over 50 publications when it first released in 1998, and has since been called one of the best games of all time, Half-Life, has finally made it's way to Mac.

Half-Life was the FPS that's been called "the best shooter since the original Doom," and the "closest thing to a revolutionary step the genre has ever taken," and the game that sent Valve skyrocketing upward to become known as one of the most acclaimed developers today.

The game was quietly released on Valve's distribution wing Steam yesterday, to the happiness of Apple fans everywhere, who've no doubt longed for the chance to play the game for years now, but just couldn't bring themselves to buy a PC.

Almost everyone knows the story at this point, but for argument's sake, the game sees players take on the role of the silent protagonist, physicist Gordon Freeman, an employee of a government contracted complex , the Area 51-styled Black Mesa Research Facility. After a scientific experiment goes awry, Freeman goes from a simple scientist, to a headcrab bashing, government agent blasting, extra-dimensional traveling badass involved in a massive conspiracy to cover up the events.

If you never had the chance to play Half-Life because you stuck by a Mac, now's your chance, and you owe it to yourself to do so. The game's available from Steam here, and at $9.99, it's a deal that you absolutely cannot pass up.
