'Overwatch' Latest News & Updates: Game Director Jeff Kaplan Alarmed By 'Symmetra' Being Very Situational; Changes On 'Symmetra' Now An Internal Project

A number of significant changes are coming for one of the the least-played character in "Overwatch." What could this mean for the video game?

Game director Jeff Kaplan told Business Insider that "Symmetra" is one of the least-played characters in "Overwatch" as her specific abilities make her very situational. Jeff Kaplan ardently explained that "Symmetra" actually gets played but she gets switched off. The usual thing that happens for "Symmetra" is that the players will play her on defense on the first part of a point. The players thereafter switch off "Symmetra" when they have lost that point.

According to the Jeff Kaplan's theory, the rationale for switching off "Symmetra" could be an indication of a specific tactic. More so, it could be a sign that the players of "Overwatch" are really trying to use Symmetra but as soon as they get frustrated, they eventually pick other characters that are more versatile.

VG 24/7 reported that Jeff Kaplan acknowledged that a character being situational is not really desirable to them. That even though he can kind of justify to fans of "Overwatch" why it happens, it does not mean that they believe that it is right. And so, "Symmetra" is a hero who is on their list of characters that need to take a good look and really investigate on.

As for the specific changes that will be made for "Symmetra," John Kaplan said that he has nothing really specific to talk about as of the moment other than "Symmetra" is a kind of "internal project" right now. Rest assured that the changes will be useful for players of "Overwatch" as he did indicate that any buffs would be significant.

But just a hint, when Blizzard Entertainment makes "minor" changes, it is expected to have a change to Junkrat on the Public Test Realm where his Ultimate activates faster.

"Symmetra" is a different case because she will go beyond safe and incremental changes. Jeff Kaplan thinks that the kind of changes that need to happen to "Symmetra" would require a lot more discussion and internal testing.

November is in two months already and fans should look forward to the major changes that will happen to "Symmetra." It is interesting to know if the changes will lift "Symmetra" from being one of the least-characters among 22 characters in "Overwatch" to being one of the most played.
