Temple Run 2 Blazes Past 50 Million Downloads In 13 Days

Arguably the best mobile game out there right now is Temple Run 2, a game that has been downloaded 50 million times in just 13 days alone. The first mobile game to hit 50 million downloads was Angry Birds: Space. However, it reached that milestone in 35 days.

Temple Run 2 first debuted on iOS on Jan. 17. The game quickly reached 20 million downloads in the first weekend, and after that, it was ported to Android and the Amazon Kindle Fire, which helped the game to hit the 50 million copies downloaded in a mere 13 days.

"Temple Run has evolved into something so much bigger than us," says Keith Shepherd, co-founder of Imangi. "The game has performed beyond our wildest dreams, and we are thrilled that gamers and fans have embraced Temple Run 2 in such a short period of time."

You think that's impressive? The original Temple Run has so far been downloaded over 170 million times, out of which 2.5 million downloads took place during the Christmas holiday. Thanks to the latest feat, the Temple Run series have firmly carved for itself a place in the history books of mobile gaming.

Temple Run developer seems to be very keen on putting the Temple Run mark on everything and not just smartphones and tablets alone. Don't be surprised if in the near future a version of Temple Run find its way on next generation consoles, and probably the PS Vita.

"More then just a game, Temple Run has expanded to include apparel with JEM Sportswear, digital comics with Ape Entertainment, and card and board games with Spin Master, among other licensing partnerships. In June 2012, Imangi and Disney Pixar launched Temple Run: Brave, a combination of the world of Disney Pixar's animated film, "Brave," and Temple Run. The game rushed to the #1 slot on the App Store near its release."

A Windows Phone 8 version of Temple Run 2 with Xbox Live support would be welcoming right about now.
