BlackBerry is dominating the tech news again, but not for the same reasons when the brand was leading the tech world years ago. Today, BlackBerry has finally conceded and announced, they will not be designing their own phones. Instead, the giant tech company will now concentrate on rebranding with software business.
The emergence of Apple and Samsung inflicted a rapport that by now, BlackBerry has finally realized, they're no match to the new mobile phone brands. The first signs of the brand, turning away from the BB trademark, is their jumpship to the Android OS fever. Leaving the BlackBerry 10 cold, the company announced that, all future BB phones will carry the Android OS.
Then they stopped updating the BlackBerry 10 OS. A homegrown operating system that served as the foundation of the brand's phone models. During its time, they were unique, wanted and even praised for their apparent indifference from the rest of the tech world. Now, time has caught up and BlackBerry is losing.
In statement from BlackBerry CEO John Chen, he said "The company plans to end all internal hardware development and will outsource that function to partners." The move to delegate the future of the brand to third party sources reveal, it's on a desperate move restructure.
Meanwhile, a new tagline for the brand says "Software is the New BlackBerry." Is this an indication that they are now integrating the brand to the software business? The corporate overhead, according to chief analyst at JackDaw Research, Jack Dawson is way above the impressive level; something that may still post threat in the software business. For now, what's important is the presence still, of the BlackBerry brand in the business.
