Why the Wii U Isn't Getting Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, and Mirror of Fate is a 3DS Exclusive

For the longest time, Castlevania was a Nintendo exclusive, with glaringly obvious exceptions aside (I'm looking at you Symphony of the Night). So when it was revealed that the upcoming Castlevania title, Lords of Shadow 2, wasn't coming to the Wii U, it was met with a little bit of confusion, particularly as producer Dave Cox never told fans exactly why.

Despite that Wii U owners will no doubt remain frustrated, the mystery has at least since been solved. Speaking with N1ntendo.nl, and translated by GoNintendo, Cox told fans just what the deal is.

"The reason that we're not making a Wii U-version of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 is because of our resources. We have a limited amount of people working on the title. About 60 people worked on the first title and that's a pretty small team. With the sequel we have slightly expanded that team, but in order to make a Wii U-version, we need about 20 to 30 extra people."

Fair enough, simple lack of resources.

While Nintendo fans won't be getting Lords of Shadow 2, they will be the only ones to play the lead-in, Mirror of Fate. Disproving rumors of a HD port for consoles, Cox confirmed that Fate is a 3DS exclusive, saying, "the game is pretty much designed for the 3DS," and "we have no plans to bring the game to HD consoles."

Fate is set 25 years after the events of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, and also acts as a precursor to the highly anticipated Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2. Players take on the role of classic Belmonts through numerous generations: Trevor, Gabriel, Simon, and Alucard, each with their own unique abilities. As for Lords of Shadow 2, not much is known about the story so far, save for what we've seen in trailers, which seem to acknowledge the first game's ending. If that's the case, Zobek has warned "Gabriel" that the acolytes of Satan are preparing for his return and that the two of them must the demon lord before he can take revenge on both of them. Zobek has promised Dracula that he can free him of his immortality if he helps him. This would make for the first ever Castlevania title to not only take place in modern times, but the first that lets players play as the Prince of Evil himself.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate is set to be released for Nintendo's 3DS and 3DS XL this March, and will be followed by Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 later this year.
