'Mafia 3' Release Date, Latest News & Updates: Why A 1950s-themed 'Mafia 3' Did Not Materialize

"Mafia 3" will be released this October 7, Friday, for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. And as the launching date is nearing, it just gets more exciting for players who have been patiently waiting.

PlayStation Lifestyle has said it. "Mafia 3" may not be the kind of "Red Dead Redemption" remastered version or anything but it sure did have a share of anticipation and hype.

Hangar 13, its developer, has revealed some of the ideas it kicked around for the next game in the "Mafia" series before deciding to go with what would become of the actual "Mafia 3."

Game Spot reported that Creative Director Haden Blackman said that Hangar 13 considered returning to Mafia 2's Empire Bay. Empire Bay is a fictional city inspired by Chicago and New York. Also, Hangar 13 thought about a number of smaller locales rather than a single, more expansive city to be the setting of "Mafia 3." As for the time placement of "Mafia 3," the team considered having the game start in 1952, not long after the events of "Mafia 2."

Additionally, the team behind "Mafia 3" thought of an idea that would have told a story across the entirety of the '60s. Ideas for a main character included someone who could handle any mafia problem or more commonly known as "fixer." The other supposed characters are a crooked police officer and a low-level mobster who got in way over his head.

But as seen on the sneak peeks and confirmed rumours, none of the mentioned ideas materialized. Haden Blackman said that he did not feel that any of the combinations were quite right. There are still too many things to anticipate for "Mafia 3."

"Mafia 3's" setting is a New Orleans-inspired location. It is set in 1968 and players get to play as Lincoln Clay, a mixed-race Vietnam veteran. The story of the game will discuss racism and that war.
