‘The Last of Us 2’ Release Date, News & Update: Game Already Confirmed – But Expect A Long Wait

After a long span of time, developer Naughty Dog has finally and officially confirmed that they will be working on "The Last of Us 2." This confirmation, however, should not work to overexcite fans of the game since it will take a long time before it will be released.

iTech Post reported that Neil Druckman of Naughty Dog has earlier revealed that they have been shifting their focus on resources to develop the DLC of "Uncharted 4" before they can even begin working on "The Last of Us 2." The sequel is already considerably late taking into consideration that it was initially released and instantly became a hit for the PlayStation 3.

Druckman also revealed that the sequel is set for a release date in 2021 and official updates should not be expected until at least 2018. With this, it looks like the studio has been very serious in making new expansions for Uncharted since being to top game worldwide, it has a rank to defend. GamenGuide previously reported that the first game took the entire team almost three full years to work on it before it became ready for its official release. Druckman also emphasized that "The Last of Us" was never meant to have a sequel in the first place as it was meant to stand alone.

Despite a very long time to wait until "The Last of Us 2" will get released, it appears that fans are still happy that the game has been confirmed and that development will be rolling out soon. Earlier, rumours have been spreading that the game has been totally forgotten by its developers and that "The Last of Us 2" will be cancelled due to lack of support or updates, but these have been debunked by Druckman's revelations.

It is also speculated that one of the reasons behind the huge timeline gap is that Naughty Dog has been working on legal matters with Intellectual Property rights after the "Uncharted 4" DLC will be released. Another reason could be that the developers are waiting for the next generation consoles and that although the Xbox Scorpio and the PlayStation 4 Pro, they are still considered current generation.
