Ubisoft's Watch Dogs, the de-facto next-gen action game and last year's E3 darling, could be coming out in to go on gamers' holiday list, according to "leaked marketing materials" that found their way to Kotaku.
The two photos show a pair of promotional posters. One poster shows what could be potential box art. The other features a previously released E3 screenshot, and the encourages fans to pre-order the game with the message: "Available Holiday 2013."
Though Watch Dogs has been considered a likely next-gen console release from the beginning—a quote on the poster from the now-defunct G4TV calls the game as much–there was never any evidence to support the idea that it could be a next-gen launch title. With all the rumors flying around about Microsoft and Sony releasing new consoles, games paving the way for the PS4 and Xbox 720 are coming out of the wordwork, but few finite release windows.
The E3 demo shows that technology will play a vital role in Watch Dog's story as well. Protagonist Aiden Pearce, a so-called Watch Dog, managing situations by hacking a wide array of technology, including cell phones, traffic lights, and virtually all forms of surveillance. Pearce, also well-versed in hand-to-hand combat and parkour, almost looks like a modern-day Assassin's Creed hero. (Before you say it. We are not suggesting that Watch Dogs is actually the next Assassin's Creed.)
According to Kotaku, when asked for coment Ubisoft responded with the following: "Ubisoft is pleased with the response for Watch Dogs from media and fans. The game is an original IP that has been created from the ground up at Ubisoft Montreal with inspiration from many titles and ideas the studio has worked on throughout the years." At the moment, the game has been confirmed to arrive on Xbox 360, PC, and PlayStation 3.
