Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Free on Steam This Weekend, Double XP Weekend Begins on All Platforms

Guess what PC gamers? There's a free trial of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 on Steam this weekend! Anyone can download the game for free, but will only get to play it for free until Sunday, February 24th, 1 am PST. That's still a free weekend-long FPS binge, people.

What's more, the full version of the game is on sale. Anyone who downloads the trial and decides to invest can pick up the standard version of the game for $40 or the "Digital Deluxe Edition" for $54. The "Deluxe" version comes with the Nuketown multiplayer map and Zombies level, a weapon camo skin, two player card backgrounds, the Black Ops II soundtrack, and a download code for Call of Duty: World at War.

Not wanting other players to feel left out, Treyarch is also hosting a double XP event for Black Ops 2 on all platforms. Double XP weekends tend to give a rise to the amount of folks in multiplayer, so trial players will get the best experience possible. The double XP ends Monday, February 25th, 10am PST, so if you've been meaning to try the game, here's your chance.

There's also less than a week left until PC and PS3 players get their hands on Black Ops 2's first DLC pack, Revolution. First released on Xbox 360 late last month as a timed exclusive, the DLC pack includes four brand new multiplayer maps:

1. Grind - An abandoned, but still well-kept skatepark in Venice, CA.
2. Hydro - A large map that allows players to use a Pakistani dam and water to their advantage to block paths and stop enemies.
3. Downhill - A medium-sized map based in the French Alps complete with snow, chair lifts, and a strategically placed lodge.
4. Mirage - This Gobi Desert multiplayer map utilizes sand dunes to provide different levels of elevation and a sanctuary in the center as a natural chokepoint.

Revolution also adds an extra "Zombies" map, "Die Rise," set on top of a Shanghai skyscraper, as well as "Turned," a new mode where players, now controlling zombies, attempt to catch and eat a lone soldier.

In addition to the maps, and zombie game mode, Revolution brings with it the first ever DLC weapon for the franchise, the Peacekeeper. A combination of Black Ops 2's multiplayer mode's most popular gun classes, SMG's and assault rifles. Black Ops 2's combat designer, Anthony Flame, describes the gun as having "the lightweight design of an SMG, but with better range and accuracy at the cost of close quarters firepower. It's a great weapon for objective modes like Hardpoint, where you need to quickly get into position and cover objectives from a safe distance."

Revolution hits PC and PS3 February 28th.
