Screenshots Show Off 'Rambo: The Videogame,'

Developer Reef Entertainment put out some new information for their awkwardly titled movie-based "Rambo: The Videogame," as well as the first screenshots of actual gameplay.

Seen above, movie fans might recognize this shot from "Rambo III," where John Rambo heads off to help the Afghans in their fight against the Soviets.

Reef is stressing "authenticity" for the game, and by that, we can only hope that means authenticity in regards to the source materials. Because if they mean real-life "authentic," that means we can kiss goodbye to dreams of taking down a helicoptor with a simple bow and arrow.

Never mind, guess that's still on.

Reef also revealed that it grabbed a hold of much of the movies' original audio, including the voice tracks of Sylvester Stallone as John Rambo, and Richard Crenna as Col. Samuel Trautman. A Reef spokesperson says: "Our goal is to produce the finest "Rambo" video game ever made. To do that we are including dialogue, special effects, and music from the movies."

Now, you may be asking, why not just get the original actors to reprise their roles? Well, 'ol Sly is still busy making movies with Khal Drogo and his "Expendable" buddies, and Richard Crenna's unfortunately been long gone since 2003.

From the shots, the game looks like it'll be a FPS. Makes sense, the Rambo flicks of the 80's helped define the run n' gun action movie genre, which in turn inspired a wide array of platform shooters of the day ("Contra," anyone?). And there's no better way to make players feel like they're in the combat boots of Rambo than to make them see things from his perspective.

Unfortunately, this is about all the "new" news that's trickled down so far. The game is still planned for release on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC, but nothing about when players can get their hands on it. For a catch up, you can take a peek at the last article here, which shows off some of the environments where Rambo will be brutalizing the locals.
