George Lucas Wants His Own Museum

George Lucas's first piece of popular art was an Uncle Scrooge comic book painting he paid $25 for.

Many years later his collection has swelled to be big enough for its own museum. The creator of 'Star Wars' wants to house his art in San Fransico, reports The San Francisco Chronicle.

Lucas's proposal is one of 16 the Presidio Trust is considering building. It can be seen here. Lucas would spend $300 million of his own money to build it.

In addition to Uncle Scrooge, the collection includes pieces by Norman Rockwell, Mad Magazine covers, and children's illustrations such as "Alice in Wonderland." There are also several "Star Wars" pieces such as a statue of Yoda and construction drawings of the Millennium Falcon cockpit.

""As a popular artist, I hit the same chord with people that Rockwell hit, that Michelangelo hit, that the people who painted on caves in France hit," Lucas tells the Chronicle. "I relate to art more as an emotional experience than as an intellectual experience."
