'Assassin's Creed' Screenshot Mistaken For Actual Photo In News Report

A Danish TV report used an image of Damascus skyline from "Assassin's Creed" instead of an actual photo of the city.

Danish station TV2 ran a report about Syria and used the game image in the background on February 26. An employee apparently mistook the screenshot for the real thing. The original "Assassin's Creed" was set in the Middle East during the Crusades. Damascus is one of the game's primary settings.

According to The Times of Israel, TV2 head of news Jacob Nybroe confirmed that the image was from the game this week and accepted responsibility for the mistake, calling it "[A] reminder to us all of the importance of verifying the sources of pictures."

As someone who isn't familiar with the Damascus skyline, I can see how someone might make this mistake. As someone who plays video games, it seems pretty obvious that is isn't photo-realistic.
