‘Pokemon Go’ Latest News & Update: Sony Launching New Mobile Games To Rival Niantic

With Niantic hogging the limelight through “Pokemon Go”, rival companies are expected to try and come up with their own mobile games to see if they can stir up a phenomenon. One company that has taken the challenge is Sony though all that will take place in 2018.

The word out is that Sony will be releasing five new mobile games in 2018 where the regions of focus are Japan and Asian markets. No official titles were rendered though priority will be given to its old game titles before new IPs take the stage.

Tasked to oversee the move will be Sony’s ForwardWorks, a division based in Tokyo, Japan. For those up to date with Sony, this is not the first time that the company will dip its hands in the mobile gaming sector though they plan to take it more seriously moving forward, Forbes reported.

Mobile games linked to game consoles

Despite no word on what Sony Interactive Entertainment plans to do to level up with what “Pokemon Go” has accomplished, a curious dish is that the mobile games would be linked to their patented game consoles. There are apparently older games which can no longer be played on the current gen platforms so the strategy should be pretty interesting.

With no clue on what these games could be, a fair reference could be the game titles which previously appeared on the PS3 or PS Vita. All these could be announced before2016 comes to a close, likely at the Sony PlayStation Experience 2016.

Can Sony catch up to Niantic?

Sony’s move into Niantic territory will be pretty interesting, hopefully, something that can become as big as a hit like “Pokemon Go”. CEO Kazuo Hirai mentioned via the Financial Times that they are serious about the aggressive push on mobile games which can hopefully pull their fortunes up in the competitive niche.
