No Horde Mode In 'Gears of War: Judgment' Sparks Outrage

"Gears of War: Judgment's" lack of Horde mode is causing gamers to say they won't buy the game. While Epic's and People Can Fly's latest third-person is sure to sell well, will it sell less than it would have because of the missing mode?

Introduced in "Gears of War 2," Horde mode lets a group of up to five players take on the bad guys from the campaign, the Locust, for 50 increasingly difficult waves. The mode proved a massive success and variations of it showed up in games like "Call of Duty: World at War," "Left 4 Dead" and "Halo 3: ODST."

The reviews for the game hit Sunday night and gamers are already expressing their outrage and promising not to buy the game. On Twitter @Onekumar writes, "No horde mode in Gears of War Judgement[sic]? Yeah I'm out. Call me when it's $10." While @nategraveen adds, "hearing there is no horde mode in gears of war judgment makes me confident saying i will never ever buy that game at all."

Over on Neogaf, eznark put it best: "No Horde mode seems like the dumbest decision in the world."

The game shipping with only eight maps, with only four for competitive mulitiplayer is not helping things. By comparison, "Gears of War 3" shipped with 10 maps. Of course, two more maps are coming this April and will be free to players because of sponsorship from Maxim. But will that be too little, too late?
