'Bastion' Creators Reveal Next Game ‘Transistor’

"Bastion" developer Supergiant Games says its next game is "Transistor," a science-fiction-themed action role-playing title. Although an early build of the game will be playable this week at PAX East in Boston, Massachusetts, "Transistor" will not be released until early 2014 for unspecified platforms.

The main character in the game, a female protagonist named Red, fights a shadowy organization that wants to retrieve the sword she has in her possession. Although the game appears to share the isometric viewpoint of "Bastion," it seems to offer a darker and more mature art style. The trailer, below, includes a wonderful song called "We All Become" by Darren Korb.

"In 'Transistor,' players assume the role of a young woman who gains control of a powerful weapon after a mysterious group of assailants nearly kills her with it. Now she must fight from street to street against forces that will stop at nothing to recover the weapon. During the course of the adventure, players will piece together the 'Transistor's' mysteries as they pursue its former owners," the official website says of the game.

Supergiant Games says "Transistor" is self-funded, like "Bastion," but did not specify which platforms the game will hit. Rumors indicate the game may come on Steam because of the success "Bastion" saw there. The company previously partnered with Warner Bros. on "Bastion," which was initially released on Xbox Live Arcade in summer 2011, before expanding itself to a slew of other platforms such as PC, Mac, and iOS. The game has sold 1.7 million copies to date.
