'Space Jam' Latest News and Update: 'Space Jam' Reruns In Theaters For 20th Anniversary

Basketball and Looney Tunes fans, rejoice! His Airness and his Hareness are back on screen next month! The 1996 hit basketball flick that teamed-up NBA all-time star Michael Jordan with the Looney Tunes, "Space Jam" will hit screens again in a limited run on November.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fathom Events announced that "Space Jam" will be shown in more than 450 select theaters in the United States for two days to mark its 20th anniversary on November 13 at 2pm and 6pm and on November 16 at 7pm. Prior to the screening of "Space Jam", A Looney Tunes short will be aired titled "I Tawt I Taw a Puddy Tat," which first premiered on the screening of Happy Feet in 2011.

Directed by Joe Pytka, "Space Jam" is a retelling of Michael Jordan's NBA comeback from retirement in 1995. The Looney Tunes will go head-to head with the Monstars, aliens who stole the basketball prowesses of NBA Stars Charles Barkley, Shawn Bradley, Patrick Ewing , Larry Johnson, and Muggsy Bogues in a basketball that will determine the cartoon gang's fate. Bugs Bunny recruits the then-retired Michael Jordan to even out the game and unite the zany cartoon characters to form the basketball team, Tune Squad and make him play ball once again.

"Space Jam" was first released by Warner Bros. Family Entertainment on November 15, 1996. Banking on Michael Jordan's fame, it became #1 in the United States and remains to be the number one basketball film of all time worldwide.

"Space Jam 2" is in the works helmed by Justin Lin with Lebron James as the new basketball star according to another report by The Hollywood Reporter. Cast members and release date are yet to be announced.

However, Director Pytka frowns upon the idea of a sequel to "Space Jam". "Don't do it. It's doomed. Michael Jordan was the biggest star on the planet."
