"Grand Theft Auto 6" has long been anticipated by the millions of fans of the video game franchise. However, with a lot going on in the publisher's plate, when will the game be officially released?
GTA Update Timeline
Since the release of the first "Grand Theft Auto" game back in 1997, the main franchise has had a two to five years of break in between its franchises. The fourth core game was introduced in 2008, with the fifth coming in at 2013. With this five-year gap, fans and game experts were led to believe that the "Grand Theft Auto 6" will optimistically be released on or before 2018.
This timeline goes well on point with what Rockstar Games has set for its titles. "Grand Theft Auto 5," the predecessor of "Grand Theft Auto 6," had just received its massive "Biker" downloadable content recently. There is still another expansion that is rumored to be released, titled "Tuners and Outlaws." These content takes most of the time of Rockstar Games, which makes it almost impossible to start working on the sequel.
Just recently added to the list is "Red Dead Redemption 2," another hit title from the publisher. These games, albeit being truly great iterations from Rockstar Games, occupy the supposedly allotted time to develop "Grand Theft Auto 6."
2020 VR Vision
With the 2018 target just two years away and still no progress from Rockstar Games, it seems almost impossible to make the deadline. This is why many game experts believe that the release of "Grand Theft Auto 6" has been relegated to 2020.
Although this seems a bit farfetched, the move seems logical enough. This gives the publisher a lot of leeway to ultimately juice out every penny they can get from their currently existing titles and perfect whatever type of gameplay they have in store for "Grand Theft Auto 6."
As many rumors suggest, "Grand Theft Auto 6" will be incorporating the newly introduced virtual reality technology. For the innovation not to be half-baked into the game, the developers need to carefully incorporate it to the game to be proven effective.
