'DayZ' Console Port Is 'Almost Certain'

The standalone "DayZ" release from the mod's original designer Dean "Rocket" Hall is making progress, taking strides to eliminate hacking and improving the core gameplay, but right now all that progress is for a PC version of the game. Hall is a PC player, his "ARMA 2" mod can only be played on PC, but none of that means the upcoming "DayZ" won't find its way to consoles eventually. Hall himself is open to the possibility, even calling it a "certain" outcome, assuming the PC version is a success.

Speaking with The Escapist at the Game Developers Conference, Hall sees Sony's Playstation 4 as the front runner for a console version of "DayZ." The Escapist writes:

"Certainly I think if we don't, for want of a better word 'fuck up,' the PC release then I would say a console port is almost certain," Hall revealed. "I know a lot of people get really hot and bothered about it. Like, I'm not a console gamer, I'm a PC gamer, but I don't think it necessarily has to hurt things."

"We've talked and met with Sony," Hall continues, "and they're very - you know, they're obviously interested."

The original "DayZ" mod is an open-world survival game, pretty much the first of its kind, where player-survivors simply try to stay alive on a server filled with other people. It's a brutal but rewarding game, requiring immense patience and a different set of tactical skills than your average game. Hall hasn't revealed a release date for the standalone version. Bohemia Interactive, "ARMA 2" developer, is developing "DayZ" with Hall.
