'Aliens: Colonial Marines' Wii U Cancelled

Gearbox and Sega's abysmal "Aliens: Colonial Marines" was showcased for the Wii U before the system's launch. That version has been officially cancelled. The news comes almost two months after the game's initial release on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Sega tells IGN the news today, less than a week after the Wii U version missed its expected March release date:

"SEGA can confirm that the Wii U sku of Aliens: Colonial Marines is no longer in development."

It's an brief statement. Neither Sega nor Gearbox has said why, however gamers are bound to speculate considering the undeniably low critical reception and controversy surrounding disparity between what was advertised and what was sold.

Gearbox President Randy Pitchford spoke of all the possibilities with the Wii U hardware they might implement in "Aliens: Colonial Marines," including showing the motion sensor on the GamePad and the fact that the Wii U version was the best looking of the consoles. Oh well.
